How the Pyramid layout works
The Pyramid is one of the most popular Mahjong Solitaire layouts. Tiles are stacked in four centred square tiers — an 8×8 base, then 6×6, 4×4, and a 2×2 capstone — so every tile near the centre is buried under the layers above it. Work from the corners of each tier inward to dig down to the base.
Just like the classic turtle board, you can only remove a tile that is free: nothing on top of it and at least one of its left or right sides open. Match two identical free tiles to clear them, and remove all 120 tiles to win.
Pyramid strategy tips
- Start at the four corners of the top tiers — they free up fastest.
- Try to open all four sides of the pyramid evenly so you always have matches.
- Avoid clearing a whole tier on one side, which can bury the tiles below.
- Stuck? Use Hint, Undo, or Shuffle — every Pyramid board on this site is guaranteed solvable.
Prefer a different shape? Try the Fortress layout, the beginner-friendly Easy board, or the classic Turtle.
